How do I use the self-checkout stations in the library?

Answer

The Kaplan Library has two self-checkout stations open to users to checkout their own items. They are located on the first floor, one in Curriculum (the children's books area) and one near the Reference section (near the steps to the second floor). If the barcode on back of your MSMC ID card doesn't scan at the self-checkout, there may be an error in your library record. Please go to the checkout desk on the second floor for help.

Self-Checkout Instructions

  1. Desensitize your item by running its spine in the direction of the arrow on the black Sentry block.
  2. Scan the barcode on the back of your MSMC ID card using the hand-held scanner next to the computer screen.
  3. Scan the library's barcode for the item (s) you are checking out. The barcodes are usually located on the back inside cover of a book. Make sure it's the Kaplan Library's barcode, not a store UPC barcode that's scanned to purchase the book.
  4. Close out of your session by tapping on the “Sign Out” button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen if you are using the Curriculum station. The Reference station requires clicking the mouse
  5. For assistance, please consult with a library staff member or visit the checkout desk on the second floor.
