Is there a textbook for my class in the library?
Answer
The library generally does not purchase textbooks due to high cost and frequent edition changes, though we may have other sources that a professor requires for a class, such as novels, streaming video, DVDs or Reserve-Shelf items. You can search our online catalog for materials the library has available (such as Shakespeare plays). For possible older editions of textbooks that you can read online, check Archive.org (click on BOOKS), Open Textbook Library, Project Gutenberg, Open Bookshelf, OER Commons or Open Syllabus.
Otherwise, students need to purchase textbooks either through the college bookstore or at online sites such as bigwords.com or directtextbook.com. Textbook rentals are available at sites like chegg.com.
